Bone tissue regeneration

Design of Bioactive Nano-hybrids for Bone Tissue Regeneration... [Pg.339]

Bioactive glasses are currently used as granulate for bone and dental grafting in small defects, or as powder incorporated into toothpaste. Although silica-based bioactive glasses meant an extraordinary advance in the field of bone tissue regeneration, their application as pieces for medium and large defects is not possible due to their very poor mechanical properties. [Pg.387]

Characteristics. MSC is a wide population that exists in the niche of the bone marrow and has attracted the attention of researchers by their potential for selfrenewal and differentiation into functional cell types in the intrinsic tissue where they reside. These cells have also been isolated from the fat tissues [90]. MSCs can be expanded in culture for several passages without losing their differentiation potential and have been widely accepted as stem cells due to their usefulness in the clinical treatment of osteogenesis imperfecta [91], bone tissue regeneration [92], and hematopoietic recovery [93]. [Pg.1339]

Approaching this new strategy, many different supramolecular self-assembling peptides have been developed and investigated by various research groups as potential functionalized scaffolds for stimulating bone tissue regeneration. [Pg.106]
