Bonds studies

A good introduction to XRF instrumentation, qualitative and quantitative analyses, and chemical-bonding studies. [Pg.348]

Vibrational spectroscopy is the experimentalist s most powerful tool for studying the effects of changes in local environment on individual chemical bonds. Studies of simple adsorbates like CO which have strong characteristic absorption bands have contributed greatly to our understanding of adsorption processes at surfaces (1). As shown here and in other papers in this symposium, recent experimental developments have led to a renewed effort to use the vibrational spectroscopy of adsorbates as a probe for understanding the physical chemistry of metal/electrolyte interfaces. [Pg.369]

Keeping these problems in mind, several of the more widely used techniques are discussed below, with an emphasis placed on their application to bonding studies of minerals and species adsorbed on them during mineral/water interface reactions. As with any experimental techniques, many of these problems can be minimized or even eliminated if due caution is taken in performing the studies. [Pg.391]

Preliminary bonding studies [11] to dentin treated with 3-methoxy-PIDAA or 2-carboxy-PIDAA (0.1 mol/L in aqueous acetone 1 1 mass) yielded composite to dentin mean shear bond strength values of 26.4 MPa ( 4.5 MPa) and 21.0 MPa ( 5.4 MPa), respectively, similar to the PIDAA control value of 24.2 MPa ( 6.7 MPa), where represents standard uncertainity in these measurements. [Pg.301]

The extent of coating adhesion failure was found to be dependent upon the resistance of the polymer in the coating to hydrolysis by corrosion generated hydroxide. In this study, similar trends have been observed for adhesives. Table I shows the results of salt spray corrosion on a series of bonds between cold rolled steel adherends and adhesives of varying chemistry. The results show that there is a direct correlation between the chemistry of the adhesive polymer and the durability of the series of adhesive bonds studied. The locus of adhesion failure also appears to be related to the type of adhesive chemistry. In this study, adhesives based on polymers having a wide range of hydrolysis resistance were examined. [Pg.196]
