Numerical simulations of the bubble dynamics during pool nucleate boiling have been earried out without any approximation of the bubble shapes. The effeet of mierolayer evaporation is ineluded. By foeusing on the miero and maero regions, the length scales from nano to miero to macro have been connected. [Pg.214]

Once nucleation has been initiated on a given site, then repeated bubbling from that site may occur even if the heat flux is reduced below the value originally necessary to initiate nucleation this hysteresis effect is discussed further in the section on parametric effects in pool nucleate boiling below. [Pg.1007]

Enhancement of Pool Nucleate Boiling Heat Transfer. Study of the enhancement of boiling heat transfer has been one of the fastest-growing areas of research in recent years. The annual publication rate in this area has grown to around 300 papers per year (Bergles [135]). [Pg.1042]

General Empirical Correlations. The correlations described above were either fluid specific or related to correlations for forced convection evaporation and/or pool nucleate boiling, respectively. An alternative approach is to develop correlations based only on the data for forced convective boiling. The most widely used correlation of this form is that of Shah [265], who correlated data for convective flow boiling in both vertical and horizontal pipes in the form... [Pg.1090]

The mechanism of boiling is essentially nucleate pool hoiling. In hoth styles of rehoiler the liquid velocity is relatively low compared to thermosiphon units. Jacobs provides an extensive comparison of advantages and disadvantages of essentially all the reboiler types used in industrial plants. Palen and Taborek conducted extensive studies of available data and proposed nucleate boiling equations to correlate various data from the available 14 equations down to a selected 6 for detailed study. The study was limited to various hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon mixtures. Their conclusions after computer correlations of the results from several equations were as follows. [Pg.170]

The following nucleate or alternate designs procedure, suggested by Kem, is for vaporization (nucleate or pool boiling) only. No sensible heat transfer is added to the boiling fluid. [Pg.173]
