Body, treatment principles

As soon as a treatment principle is established, the composition plan and treatment strategies can be arranged. For instance, to treat the syndrome of excess heat in the Lung and Stomach, one would first prescribe herbs that have sweet-cold, bitter-cold or salty-cold properties, and which have the functions of clearing heat and reducing fire in the Lung and Stomach. Second, herbs that are sweet and cold and that can nourish body fluids and protect the Yin, which has been severely consumed by the excess heat, should be selected. Herbs that can tonify the Qi should be selected if the Qi is weakened severely by the heat. Herbs that moderate the actions of the harsh herbs in the formula, and reduce their side effects, should also be added. [Pg.9]

The Conseil has made it clear that the legislator remains free to configure the organisation and administration of social security institutions, or to delegate these tasks to specific bodies, on the condition that due justice is done to the equal treatment principle. [Pg.76]

Measuring body temperature is important for the detection of disease and assessment of the response to treatments. The first thermometer was developed by Galileo in 1603. Thermometers for measuring body temperature have been in use since about 1870. The first measurements taken were axillary, and later oral and rectal measuring methods were introduced. The working principle of those thermometers, the expansion of matter by temperature increase, is still used for body temperature measurement in mercury-in-glass thermometers. Electronic thermo-... [Pg.72]

The most obvious treatment of poisoning from excessive metal exposure is to remove the metal from the body, thus the development of chelating agents. While treatment may be necessary, it is far more desirable to prevent exposure. In fact the best treatment for low-level exposure is often to identify the source of exposure and eliminate contact with the metal. An excellent example of this principle is lead, where the most important action is to reduce or eliminate exposure. [Pg.132]

Formulas that drain downwards are, in principle, not suitable for patients who suffer from exterior syndromes. It is better first to treat the exterior condition and then to drain downwards. Otherwise, the treatment may lead the exogenous factors into the deeper regions of the body. [Pg.27]
