Blending agglomeration process

Several laboratory tests (3,6) are used to determine the desirabiHty of a coal or blend of coals for making coke. These are empirical and are carried out under conditions that approach the coking process. The three properties that have been studied are swelling, plasticity, and agglomeration.

Phosphorus is manufactured by the reduction of commercial-quality phosphate rock by coke in an electric furnace, with silica used as a flux. Slag, ferrophosphorus (from iron contained in the phosphate rock), and carbon monoxide are reaction byproducts. The standard process, as shown in Figure 2, consists of three basic parts phosphate rock preparation, smelting in an electric furnace, and recovery of the resulting phosphoms. Phosphate rock ores are first blended so that the furnace feed is of uniform composition and then pretreated by heat drying, sizing or agglomerating the particles, and heat treatment. 

In the plating process it is essential to guarantee a homogenous blending besides homogenous addition/distribution of the liquid material. The liquid feeding can be carried out by inlet lances, injectors or nozzles, while agglomeration of the plated powder material has to be suppressed by a chopper or cutter.
