Blasting cap assembly

Once initiating devices are connected to a cord or fuse they become assemblies, hence blasting cap assembly and detonator assembly. Detonating relays are assemblies of detonators connected in such a way that multiple charges are fired in parallel or sequentially as one explosive initiates another. 

When placed in air-tight Fe or A1 containers, they can be used for underwater work. In such cases it is not necessary to insert the blasting cap into the acid charge, but merely to press it against the outside of the sheet metal with an insulating band. Since fuzes burn underwater, it can be lighted in the air, and the entire assembly then placed at the required depth... 

Spread the points of the cotter pin safety to prevent accidental dislodging and then unscrew the fuse assembly of the frag grenade with pliers. The fuse may be saved for use as an improvised firing device or the blasting cap may be removed for other uses (see section on improvised detonators). ... 

Electric blasting caps (or electric blasting initiators) are described in Ref 44, pp B186-R to B186-L. Such caps are called "electric detonators" in Gt Britain. The special Jet Tapper Blasting Caps have been designed to withstand prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Experience has shown that they will stay in a hot tap hole for from three to eight minutes before detonating when they are used as part of the Jet Tapper assembly... 

While blasting caps are extremely expensive and mechanically difficult those who absolutely, positively had to have one could get it from an automotive air bag assembly. To some extent, these caps lack the strength and quality of regular commercial blasting caps, but for those who cannot scrounge up the simple chemicals needed for good homemade caps, they arc an option. 

This material is now ready for assembly in its final form as a usable blasting cap.

A wooden card file can be boobytrapped effectively by the use of a mousetrap rigged as a trigger, a standard base w ith blasting cap attached, a support block fastened inside to hold the firing assembly at the proper level for operation, and a trigger block to hold the trigger in armed position,...
