All these correlation formulae were obtained from fuels for which both the lower heating value and the absolute entropy at (T0,P0) are known. Because the latter is not known for the generally used solid and fluid fuels such as bituminous coal, lignite, cokes, oil, tar, and so on, the equations are offered as plausible approximations for these based on analogy of behavior. 

Lignite and wood-based coal show poor adsorption performance, whereas bituminous coal-based carbons exhibit low to moderate percentages of MTBE removal [19]. The higher the activation factor, the better the capacities of the coal types (F-600 better than F-400) [19,51,52], F-300 proved to be the most efficient activated carbon in terms of carbon loading and carbon usage rates in a study of Wilhelm et al. [34] who compared various bituminous coal-, lignite- and wood-based carbon types. 

The solid fuels used include bituminous coal, lignite and PET coke (with a controlled level of volatiles). Some lime producers use a mixture of gas and solid fuel to produce lime with acceptably low sulfur levels at minimum fuel cost.
