Bituminous coals elemental analysis

Direct Characterization Techniques. The in situ analysis of elemental composition of coals by ion microprobe was first demonstrated by Dutcher t al. (85). Raymond (86) has applied this technique to examine the variation in composition of coal macerals which has been especially effective for looking at sulfur distribution. An example of the organic sulfur distribution for two bituminous coals is shown in Table II which is taken from reference (86). Note that the liptinites contain the... [Pg.21]

The effect of additives on the asphaltene from the Catalytic Incorporated (Cat. Inc.) coal liquid product was studied. Asphaltene is defined as the pentane insoluble but benzene soluble part of the coal liquid. The fractionation procedure has been described in detail elsewhere(l) and is shown schematically in Figure 1. Some work was also done with A240 petroleum pitch. Elemental analysis for the Wyoming sub-bituminous coal. Cat. Inc. coal liquid product, and Cat. Inc. asphaltene and A240 petroleum pitch are shown in Table I. Measured amounts of the additive compounds to be studied were added to the Cat. Inc. asphaltene and petroleum pitch. The samples were pyrolyzed and the pyrolysis residues examined by cross polarized light microscopy. Elemental analyses of the residues were done. [Pg.264]

Solvent refined lignites (SRL) sample (M-llA) and two solvent refined coal (SRC) samples (AMAX, and Indiana) were ground to about 40 mesh for the study (13). Elemental analysis of the samples was performed by Spang Micro-Analytical Laboratory. 1-l C-Acetlc anhydride (ca 10 Ci/ml) and 1- C-acetlc acidl (ca 10 Ci/ml) were used for radio labeled study. High-volatile bituminous coal, seam 6, from a West Central Illinois mine was ground to about 160-350 mesh for the study. Ethanol-l- C and methanol- C (ca 5.5 Ci/ml)... [Pg.478]
