Bituminous coal tar

The use of pyrolysis for the recycling of mixed plastics is discussed and it is shown that fluidised bed pyrolysis is particularly advantageous. It is demonstrated that 25 to 45% of product gas with a high heating value and 30 to 50% of an oil rich in aromatics can be recovered. The oil is found to be comparable with that of a mixture of light benzene and bituminous coal tar. Up to 60% of ethylene and propylene can be produced by using mixed polyolefins as feedstock. It is suggested that, under appropriate conditions, the pyrolysis process could be successful commercially. 23 refs. [Pg.82]

Bituminous coal tars tend to be more aromatic (and relatively more thermally stable) than the tars generated from lignites. When heated, bituminous coals soften, become plastic, and swell to varying degrees, whereas lower-rank coals generally do not become plastic. However, at a rapid heating rate (about 10°C/min) or elevated pressure, certain lower-rank coals may melt and demonstrate some plastic and swelling characteristics. [Pg.887]

The composition of bituminous coal-tar and tar pitches is very complex and consists of a wide variety of components (Lang, 1966). But the coke-forming components of the pitch are of great importance for briquetting the currently preferred low-volatile coals, and especially for briquetting anthracite coals. These coals do not cake or melt while burning in the furnace thus, the stability of the briquettes depends entirely on the skeleton of pitch coke formed in the briquette structure. Furthermore, the content of coke-forming components in the tar pitch increases as the rate of pitch distillation is decreased. [Pg.538]

Carbazole is recovered from bituminous coal tar. Vinylization proceeds at 160-180° C and 20 bar in the presence of ZnO/KOH with acetylene. iV-Vinyl carbazole can be polymerized in suspension with nonoxidizing free radical initiators, and, possibly, also, electron acceptors ... [Pg.427]

In the furnace process, mineral oil bottoms or bituminous coal tar oils are sprayed into and burnt in a closed refractory brick furnace in a fuel gas flow (natural gas or manufactured gas) at a specified oxygen deficiency. The oil fragments dehydrogenate and polymerize to carbon black particles. The residence time of the particles in the combustion chamber is controlled by water injection. Various carbon black types can be manufactured, depending on the process parameters. [Pg.21]
