Bisphenol halogenated derivatives

Bisphenols are composed of two phenolic groups connected by various linkages. Hydroxy halogenated derivatives, such as hexachlorophane (Fig. 10.7D) and triclosan, are the most active microbiologically, but are bacteriostatic at use-concentrations and have little antipseudomonal activity. The use of hexachlorophane is also limited by its serious toxicity. Both hexachlorophane and trichlosan have limited application in medicated soaps and washing creams. [Pg.224]

Packaging of the chip portion of the chip/lead combined unit into a plastic or ceramic container is a semi-automated process involving the use of epoxy resins, usually epoxy novolak resin formations [15]. These should be fully cured prior to use, but unreacted monomers may be present, which can sensitise, as may other diluent and flame retardant materials, such as halogenated derivatives of bisphenol A, which are added to the resin prior to use. The completed devices are then laser marked in an enclosed system and tested, again in an automated process, prior to delivery for sale. [Pg.655]

General - From the above it can be seen that substitution in the ortho positions of a bisphenol A polyester gives rise to an increase in Tg. There is roughly a 25 C increase in temperature between the two series of polymers APE = 215 C, CAPE = 240°C, BRAPE = 275 C (Fig. 5). In addition the halogenated derivatives yield polyesters which show a greater degree of crystallinity over a broader range of compositions than do the APE polyesters. This may also help to explain some of the solubility differences in compositions which will now be addressed. [Pg.327]

Halogenated bisphenol derivatives can be used for the formation of polycarbonates. For example, bisphenol AF can be used instead of bisphenol A, giving polyfoxycarbonyloxy-1,4-phenylene(hexafluoroisopropylidene)-1,4-phenylene]. The formulas for two other halogenated polycarbonates are shown below ... [Pg.557]

The CZE separation of halogenated phenolic and bisphenolic compounds from 25 potentially interfering phenolic derivatives for inspection in water, sludge, and sediments has been attempted " using aqueous (borate buffer at pH 9.4) and nonaqueous (borate buffer in MeOH) systems (details in Table 31.9). [Pg.954]

The new advanced copolycarbonate resins are a copolymer of bisphenol A and bishydroxyphenol fluorene (BHPF), a fluorenyl derivate. Among the primary features of Inspire resins are equivalent or better heat and inherent ignition resistance without the use of halogens, improved processability, and superior transparency and optical properties when compared to advanced polymers. [Pg.34]
