Potassium bismuthate

Bismuth Potassium Chromates.—When potassium chromate, or diehromate, is added to a solution of a bismuth salt, the yellow precipitate formed, if allowed to remain in contact with the solution,... [Pg.48]

The intensity of the band at 1450 crn l observed in the spectrum of the undoped alumina-supported vanadia catalyst decreases upon the addition of bismuth, potassium, phosphorous or molybdenum. These results indicate a reduction of the number of Lewis acid sites after the incorporation of metal oxides. In the case of K-doped catalysts the low intensity of the band at 1450 cm 1 clearly demonstrates that the majority of the surface acid sites disappears with the incorporation of potassium. Thus, Lewis acid sites have completely disappeared in the K(0.7) catalyst. [Pg.447]

It is usually contaminated with As, from which it is best purified by heating to redness a mixture of powdered bismuth, potassium carbonate, soap and charcoal, nnder a layer of charcoal. After an hour the mass is cooled the button is separated and fused until its surface begins to be coated with a yellowish-brown oxid. [Pg.169]

Salts of organic acids like bismuth citrate, gallate, lactate, salicylate, thioglycolate, or camphorate also exist as basic compounds. Bismuth subcitrate forms a colloidal solution with molecules of the formula [BixCOHlyfCgHsO ) ] depending on the acidity of the solution. Bismuth potassium tartrate and bismuth sodium tartrate are soluble in water, but with time they decompose [1,2,5,61. [Pg.270]

Selenium and tellurium react spontaneously with liquid chlorine, whereas sulfur begins to react only at the boiling point. Liquid chlorine reacts vigorously with iodine, red phosphorus, arsenic, antimony, tin, and bismuth. Potassium, sodium, and magnesium are unaffected in liquid chlorine at temperatures below - 80 C. Aluminum is unattacked until the temperature rises to - 20 C, when it ignites. Gold is only slowly attacked by liquid chlorine to form the trichloride (AuCls). Cast iron, wrought iron. [Pg.12]

Traces of bismuth may be ekimated colorimetrically as bismuth potassium iodide in acid solution and in the presence of sulphurous acid, small amounts of other metals not interfering. An excess of sulphurous acid must be avoided as it produces a yellow colour with potassium iodide. [Pg.129]
