Biphenyl 2,2 -dicarboxy

Water-soluble poly(p-phenylene) 24, shown in Scheme 29, was prepared by the introduction of carboxylic acid pendant substituents along the p-phenylene chains [102]. In initial work in this area, a dicarboxy-substituted dibromobiphe-nyl was polymerized with 4,4f-biphenyl bis-boronic acid via Suzuki coupling... 

Dicarboxy-2,2, 5,5 -tetraalkyl-3,3 -bithienyls (128a,b) were resolved into enantiomers and racemization experiments were carried out in 0.1 N sodium hydroxide solution (67AK115). The racemization of the tetramethyl derivative 128a was 80 times faster than that of the tetraethyl derivative 128b at 120°C. By comparison, biphenyl analogue 129 shows no racemization after 4 hr at 150°C. 

Minor Differences. Another point of difference between British and American custom is the use of di in diphenyl (Britain) and of bi in biphenyl (U.S.A.). The British do not use double-molecule names such as bibenzoic acid (dicarboxy-diphenyl), because it is only the radical which is doubled. There is also the question of the state of reduction of cyclic ketones. The British define the state of reduction in the name of the compound, whereas American practice allows it to be taken for granted whenever possible. 

Phenanthrenchinone oder 9,10-Phenanthrenchinon-monoimine sind der oxidativen Spaltung mit Sauerstoff zu 2,2 -Dicarboxy-biphenyl zuganglich. Die Oxidation wird in Pyri-din in Gegenwart von Kupfer(I)-chlorid durchgefuhrt33.
