Given the voluminous literature about the geochemistry of Pb in the environment (5000 papers in 1978 alone, according to Nriagu [14]), we have concentrated our efforts on new developments in the following areas

Small catchment study of environmental lead biogeochemistry The input of airborne lead to the Forest ecosystems has been studied at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in New Hampshire. The small catchment approach has been used to study the lead biogeochemical cycle since 1963 (Lickens et al, 1977 Driscoll et al, 1994). Our investigations of the biogeochemistry of DMS have focussed on a variety of coastal marine environments. In this paper we present an overview of our research on the processes leading to DMS production and consumption. We discuss our results in the context of obtaining a broader understanding of DMS cycling in the marine environment.
