Biogenic amines applications

Innumerable applications of chromatographic methods to the analysis of amines appeared in the recent literature concerning biogenic amines, drugs and their metabolites, pesticides and industrial intermediates however, due to the nonvolatile nature of many amines, application of the LC methods in Section IV.D became preponderant.

A typical application in this area is the determination of choline, a biogenic amine in soy beans which are added to baby food. While the conventional choline determination procedure is very time-consuming and imprecise, this substance can be analyzed with ion-pair chromatography in less than 20 minutes (Fig. 8-74).
