Lai et al. [85] studied rAAV2 biodistribution after intrahepatic in-utero injection in rhesus monkey fetuses. The vector genomes were distributed into many tissues, including the brain, astrocytes, and peripheral blood. However, these vectors do not appear to enter the brain in older animals possessing intact blood-brain barriers. Favre et al. [86] also showed that rAAV2 mediated gene expression for at least 18 months in lymph nodes and the liver, but not in the gonads.
