Biocidal Products Directive BPD

The European Parliament and the Council adopted Directive 98/8/EC (EC 1998) in 1998 concerning the placing of biocidal products on the EU Market (Biocidal Product Directive, BPD) (EU 2006d, ECB 2006). [Pg.38]

Directive 98/8/EC, the so-called Biocidal Products Directive (BPD) was integrated into each Member State National legislation for May 14th 2000. Within the Annexes of this directive several biocidal product types are identified that are relevant either directly or indirectly to mineral processing or to the use of mineral slurries. This legislation will have an increasingly significant impact on the active substance producers, the biocidal product formulators and the end-user industries they serve. Some of the more important consequences/issues for the industry include ... [Pg.111]

Biocide active substances or products are generally exempt from REACH evaluation and authorization procedures because they are regulated in the EU under the Biocidal Products Directive (BPD) (EC 1998). This Directive has an established process for evaluation of active substances (for listing in Annex I of the BPD), followed by national approvals of the formulated biocidal products containing them. However,... [Pg.49]

In the EU, antibacterial plastics could be classified as Biocidal Products rmder the Biocidal Products Directive (BPD) and the cost of registration could be as much as 200,000. [Pg.11]

The introduction of a new antimicrobial compound is only possible if legal registration requirements can be met. However, these requirements differ in many European countries and also in other relevant markets like USA, Canada and Japan. In Europe, the biocidal products directive (BPD) will harmonize the registration of such products. [Pg.43]

In Europe, the Biocidal Product Directive (BPD) will make it necessary to find substitution products for compounds no longer registrated and supported under the BPD. [Pg.45]

Most recently, in Europe a patchwork of varying requirements, which included EINECS listing for antimicrobials, are being brought together for antimicrobial pesticides in the Biocidal Products Directive (BPD). When fully implemented it will be the highest level requirement to date. [Pg.61]

In recent years major developments in risk assessments of biocidal products have taken place within the European Union (EU) as a result of the implementation of the Biocidal Products Directive (BPD) 98/8/EC. This legislation will result in the highest level of testing substances and products of antimicrobial activity and will set the standard for product registration for all suppliers of biocides. Therefore, the risk assessment procedures described within the BPD technical notes for guidance will be discussed in the following sections and compared to other risk assessment procedures worldwide. [Pg.80]

Europe has now introduced the Biocidal Products Directive (BPD), which will become the definitive guideline for approved biocidal substances. Extensive technical and eco-tox support is required to ensure that a supplier s product is put onto an approved list. The onus is on the manufacturer of the biocide to provide this data. BPD became effective in 2000, will be fully enforced by 2005. Any product not fully supported must be withdrawn... [Pg.410]
