Switching binary sequences

If the first pair of switches is examined, one is off and the other on, and the result of touching each must be a resulting on (off-on and on-off, giving a total of on). For the other pair, exactly the opposite sequence is present but the net result is on. As far as the machine is concerned, the result is on, on, which in binary code is 11 and in decimal code is 3, the correct answer. Therefore, to get the machine to add in binary, it is necessary to have a switch for each power of two that we want. The number 2 is 64 (decimal) and, to represent any number up to 63, we must have seven switches (seven flip-flop circuits), viz., 2, 2, 2, 2, 2 , and zero. In computer jargon, these... [Pg.306]

This is a highly recommended method of capacitor switching for installations that are large and require very fine monitoring and correction of p.f. with the smallest number of banks. The entire reactive requirement is arranged in only a few steps yet a small correction up to the smallest capacitor unit is possible. The relay is sequenced so that through its binary counter the required switching is achieved in small steps, with just four or six sets of capacitor units or banks. The operation of the entire sequence can be illustrated as follows ... [Pg.769]

A six-stage binary scheme should normally be adequate to switch even very large banks. Yet this sequencing can be further modified to achieve a more particular sequencing pattern when required, as noted below. [Pg.769]

Pseudostochastic random binary sequences are noise-like time patterns. They are defined at times n A t and assume only two different values, corresponding to the grating amplitudes -1 and +1, if 180°-phase modulation is used for switching off the optical grating. Only software modifications, and no changes in the hardware of the TDFRS setup, are necessary in order to utilize pseudostochastic excitation sequences. The timing for heterodyne/homodyne separation is identical to the one already described for pulsed excitation. [Pg.38]

In Ref. [75], it is discussed in more detail why it is advantageous to convolute the response of the temperature grating into the excitation and how to treat systematic errors arising from this approximation and from imperfections of the components in the setup. Especially the switching properties of the Pockels cell require careful analysis, since the switching number increases from 2 in case of pulsed excitation to approximately N in case of pseudostochastic binary sequences. [Pg.43]

The primary characteristic of an analog multiplexer is that it can accommodate multiple analog inputs, any one of which can be sampled through a single output channel. The selection of the input channel to be transmitted to the digitization hardware can be accomplished by a binary-coded command from the computer or by generating an appropriate external sequencing code. The critical characteristic is the time required to switch between input channels. With solid-state... [Pg.763]

Develop an information flow diagram, a sequential function chart, and binary and ladder logic diagrams for this batch operation. Assume the batch proceeds uninterrupted (i.e., do not consider the case where the operator could accidentally activate the hand switch after the batch sequence starts). [Pg.435]
