Bidirectional patterns

In the application of bidirectional patterns, the end domes can be formed by fibers that are laid down in polar winding patterns. The best geometrical shape of the dome is an oblated hemispheroid. Theoretically, the allowable stress level in the two perpendicular directions should be identical. However, the efficiency of the longitudinal fibers is less than that of the circumferential fibers. It is possible to estimate an optimum or length-to-diameter ratio of a cylindrical case for a given volume. 

Other varieties of unidirectional microphones include the supercardioid, hypercardioid, and ultradirec-tional types such as the line/gradient shotgun microphone. Supercardioid and hypercardioid microphones are variations of the bidirectional pattern. The front lobe is enlarged as the back lobe is reduced. The null points are moved from the sides toward the rear of the pattern. The supercardioid polar pattern is shown in Fig. 3.36. Also note the variation in polar response for the four frequencies shown. 

Bidirectional pattern A microphone pickup pattern resembling a figure eight, in which the device is most sensitive to sounds on either side of the pickup element. 

The 3 of 9 bar code is a variable-length, bidirectional, discrete, selfchecking, alphanumeric bar code. Its data character set contains 43 characters 0-9, A—Z, -,., , /, -i-, %, and space. Three of the nine elements are wide and six are narrow. A common character ( ) is used exclusively for both a Start and Stop character. The Start/Stop characters must be included in every bar code. It s the Start/Stop pattern that allows symbols to be scanned bidirectionally. 

Such aldolase-catalyzed bidirectional chain elongation ( tandem aldolization) of simple, readily available dialdehydes has been developed into an efficient method for the generation of higher carbon sugars (e.g. (87)/(89)) by simple one-pot operations (Figure 10.32) [126,156]. These studies not only show patterns somewhat consistent with laboratory results, but also illustrate an additional level of complexity in signaling processes when communication is bidirectional. Predation peaks at an intermediate level of flow/turbulence (Fig. 4.4), which probably reflects some of the physical processes outlined above. In addition, the dynamics of this communication system also appear contingent on the balance between abilities of predator and prey to detect each other (Smee and Weissburg 2006). Slow and less turbulent flows potentially not only allow predators to navigate effectively, but also allow prey to detect predator scent...

Bidirectional deformable pattern weave Any crimp in the threads is eliminated. The threads are arranged in plies placed at 90° to each other and bound together by a thin thread, representing less than 10% of the total.
