Stomach bezoar

Stimulates gastric emptying and intestinal transit of barium in cases where delayed emptying interferes with radiological examination of the stomach or small intestine. Unlabeled uses Used to improve lactation. Doses of 30 to 45 mg/day have increased milk secretion, possibly by elevating serum prolactin levels (see Warnings). Also for treatment of postoperative gastric bezoars (10 mg 3 or 4 times daily). [Pg.1391]

Modified-release formulations of nifedipine have been associated in case reports with the formation of bezoars, concretions of undigested material within the gastrointestinal tract, mostly in the stomach. An unusual case of tablet impaction in the duodenum, with gastric outlet obstruction, was discovered 1 year after the patient stopped taking a modified-release formulation of nifedipine (27). [Pg.2518]

Sucralfate therefore should be taken at least 2 hours after the administration of other drugs. The sticky nature of the viscous gel produced by sucralfate in the stomach also may lead to the formation of bezoars in some patients, particularly in those with underlying gastroparesis. [Pg.627]

FIGURE 126. Additional chemical hieroglyphics from the 1755 Oraadum (see Figure 124). Bezoar may he defined as hard masses deposited around foreign masses found in the walls of stomachs or intestines of animals, especially ruminants. [Pg.176]

A hard, gummy ball which forms in the stomach and which may block the intestines. A bezoar may form when foods rich in gums are swallowed without adequate chewing. [Pg.106]
