Best, Charles discovery

Was this your answer Gas laws work best for gases at low pressures and high temperatures. At atmospheric pressure, the distances between air molecules are much greater than the sizes of the air molecules. Also, air is well above its boiling points (N2 boils at-i96°C and02 at -i83°C). This, of course, permitted the gas law discoveries of Boyle, Charles, Avogadro, and others. [Pg.586]

Animals ex pancreatic 3 cells discovery (1922) by Frederick Banting, J.B. Collip, Charles Best, J. Macleod (Canada Nobel Prize, Medicine, to Banting MacLeod, 1923) sequence by Fred Sanger (1953) (UK, Nobel Prizes, Chemistry, 1958 [insulin sequence] 1980 [RNA sequencing]) for treatment of Type 1 and advanced Type 2 diabetes mellitus Synthetic... [Pg.657]

A major achievement in drug discovery and development was the discovery of insulin in 1921 from animal sources. Frederick G. Bunting and Charles H. Best, working in the laboratory of John J.R. McLeod at the University of Toronto, isolated the polypeptide hormone and began testing it in dogs. By 1922, researchers, with the... [Pg.14]

Insulin University of Toronto researchers Frederick Banting, J. J. R. Macleod, and Charles Best first extract insulin from a dog, and the first diabetic patient is treated with purified insulin the following year. Banting and Macleod win the 1923 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discovery of insulin. [Pg.2054]

Charles, Jacques Alexandre Cesar (1746-1823) A French chemist and physicist best known for his discovery of Charles s law. He made the first hydrogen balloon ascent in 1783, which was sponsored by the Academic des Sciences. He prepared the hydrogen, filled the balloon, and with an assistant, Nicolas-Louis Robert (1760-1820), rose to aheight of over 500 m. He also experimented with atmospheric electricity. [Pg.62]

In 1877, Charles Friedel and James Mason Crafts [30a, b] corporately discovered that treatment of amyl chloride with aluminum strips in benzene led to the formation of amylben-zene. This type of transformation was found to be general for alkyl halides and aromatics under the catalysis of Lewis acid. Along with the discovery of the closely related acylation [30c, d], these two men are best remembered by Friedel-Crafts reaction that bears their names. With various modem modifications that appeared in the Uterature, including enan-tioselective variants [31], Friedel-Crafts alkylation and acylation have already become one of the most powerful C—C bond forming reactions in organic chemistry [32]. These methods are recognized to date as of fundamental importance not only in acadania but also in industry [33]. As shown in Scheme 10.18, some heteroaromatics, instead of the aryl component or alcohol, and alkenes instead of halides can be used as suitable substrates. Also, other common Lewis acids like BFj, TiCl, SnCl, ScfOTOj, etc., and Brpnsted acids snch as HF, H SO, and superacids (e.g., HF SbFj, HS03-SbFj) can also used as catalysts. [Pg.344]
