Berberine/berberrubine

B. vulgaris L. Berberine, berberrubine, palmatine, jatrorrhizine, columbamine, berbamine, oxyacanthine and a base C19H22ON2, hydrochloride, m.p. 256°. [Pg.329]

Protoberberines and their derivatives as potential anticancer agents have been reviewed. In recent years a large number of derivatives of berberine, berberrubine, and palmatrubine have been prepared for investigation of their potential antileukemic and antineoplastic activities (no data). One of these, 9-methoxyprotoberberinium bromide increased the survival time of mice infected with sarcoma 180 and leukemia L-1210 by 100 and 2417o respectively. ... [Pg.250]

Forty-eight derivatives of berberine-type alkaloids were examined for their inhibition activity against the induction of mouse ear edema via application of 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA). Berberrubine chloride displayed inhibitory effects (ED50 1.3 pmol/ear 52% inhibition). Berberine derivatives had stronger inhibitory activity than palmatine derivatives. Since berberine and some of its derivatives are present in Chinese traditional drugs, which are used in combined Kampo prescriptions, it is important to determine if such alkaloids possess carcinogenic inhibiting properties [221]. [Pg.137]

Berberrubine chloride has antimicrobial activity against Mycobacterium smegmatis at the 100 jcxg/ml level, whereas berberine may be markedly valuable in the treatment of cutaneous leshmaniasis. A summary of the antimicrobial effects of berberine has recently become available." ... [Pg.249]

Members of the Berberidaceae are known to produce a yellow dyestuff extractable from the roots, of which the principal component is berberine q.v.). Other components include oxyacanthine, magnoflorine, berberrubine, berbamine, jatror-rhizine, columbamine, palmatine and isotetrandine (Schweppe, 1992). [Pg.43]
