Basophil activation test BAT

The detection of reactions mediated by specific IgE to agents triggering anaphylaxis may be achieved by means of serological methods serum-specific IgE, or by means of cellular tests which determine the release of basophil mediators (leukotrienes and histamine) or by means of the analysis of basophil expression markers, a technique known as the basophil activation test (BAT).

Another report compared the diagnostic value for skin tests, DPT and basophil activation test (BAT) in 90 patients who had symptoms suggestive of acute hypersensitivity reactions. Five patients had a positive skin test. Of the five positive patients, two had a positive DPT for an alternative contrast agent. In the negative skin test group, DPT was positive in three cases with the culprit agent. BAT was positive in five (62.50%) patients who were confirmed as having hypersensitivity [19 ].
