Basal drag

Larger cratons will be more susceptible to rifting as a result of basal drag at the LAB. Variations in lithospheric thickness within a large craton may lead to ponding of plume material, generating extensional body forces within the cratonic interior. [Pg.141]

Ranitidine is a second-generation H2-receptor-blocking drug. Like cimetidine, ranitidine suppresses both basal and stimulated hydrochloric acid produced by food, histamine, gastrin, and acetylcholine. It simultaneously reduces pepsin activity and is used for treating stomach and duodenum ulcers as well as other conditions accompanied by elevated acidity of the gastrointestinal tract. Synonyms of this drag are zantac, azantac, raniplex, ranidil, and others. [Pg.232]

Neuroanatomy. Abnormalities on positron emission tomography (PET) scans of neuronal activity of cortical projections to the basal ganglia have been confirmed by a number of investigators in OCD patients. Specifically, projections from the orbitofrontal—medial prefrontal cortex may be implicated in OCD. Such PET-demonstrated abnormalities in cortical projections to the basal ganglia may even be linked to the severity of symptoms in OCD patients, since they diminish as OCD patients improve, whether that improvement occurs after drag treatment or after behavioral therapy (see Fig. 5—53). [Pg.341]

Obsessive-compulsive disorder may be linked to abnormalities of the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine. The neuroanatomical basis of OCD may be related to dysfunction in the basal ganglia. The hallmark of treatment for OCD is use of SSRIs plus the tricyclic antidepressant clomipramine. Panic disorder is characterized by unexpected panic attacks, possibly linked to abnormalities in the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and GABA, in the sensitivity of benzodiazepine receptors, or even in the regulation of respiration. Drag treatments include SSRIs, several of the newer antidepressants, high-potency benzodiazepines, many tricyclic antidepressants, and MAO inhibitors. [Pg.364]

Basal LH and FSH concentrations may be measured two hours after medication with the test drag or 24 hours after medication. Changes are often more readily detected shortly after medication, and... [Pg.346]

It may be observed that the only non-linearity in the model equations lies in the solvent drag term of the expression for solute flux across the basal membrane (Eqn. 74). Furthermore it is clear that if = Cs = P =P = N — 0 then Cg = Fg =... [Pg.334]
