Paroxetine Barbiturates

On the other hand, the analgesic phenylbutazone, the antidepressant paroxetine, tetracycline antibiotics doxycycline and chlorotetracycline, the antibiotics tilmico-sin, danofloxacin, enoxacin, nifuroxazide, the (3-blockers betaxolol, carazolol, pindolol, the (3-agonist clenbuterol, barbiturates, the antihypertensive lisinopril, and the drug to treat cancer tamoxifen were never detected. [Pg.220]

Drugs such as barbiturates and carbamazepine induce certain enzymes and will then trigger faster breakdown of some concomitantly used antipsycho-tics and antidepressants. In contrast, paroxetine, fluoxetine and fluvox-amine, acting by different mechanisms, inhibit the breakdown of other concomitantly administered drugs such as benzodiazepines, antidepressants, antiepileptics and neuroleptics (Table 5.1). [Pg.161]

ASA = aspirin NSAIDs = non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen, naproxen, and diclofenac CNS stimulants include drugs such as pseudoephedrine, dextroamphetamine, theophylline, and caffeine MAO = monoamine oxidase CNS depressants include drugs such as benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and ethanol SSRIs = selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, such as fluoxetine, sertraline, and paroxetine. Antidiabetic agents include drugs such as insulin, glipizide, glyburide, and metformin. [Pg.70]

Phenobarbital 100 mg once daily given to 10 healthy subjects for 14 days caused reductions of 10 to 86% in the AUC of paroxetine in 6 subjects, but the mean AUC values were unaltered. One subject showed a 56% increase in AUC. The sedative effects and impairment of psychomotor performance caused by amobarbital 100 mg were not increased by paroxetine 30 mg. Two cases of hepatitis in young women were considered to be caused by the concurrent use of Atrium (a barbiturate complex) and paroxetine, which are both hepatotoxic. ... [Pg.1227]

Paroxetine appears not to interact to a clinically important extent with amobarbital, but phenobarbital may reduce the AUC of paroxetine. Two cases of hepatotoxicity have been reported when paroxetine was given with a barbiturate. [Pg.1227]
