BalI mechanism

This reaction, while rare, has been observed for various N-tert-huiyl amides in 98% sulfuric acid, where the mechanism was the AalI mechanism, and for certain amides containing an azo group, where a BalI mechanism was postulated. Of the two first-order acyl cleavage mechanisms, only the AacI has been observed, in concentrated sulfuric acid solutions. Of course, the diazotization of unsubstituted amides might be expected to follow this mechanism, and there is evidence that this is true. ...

This is an Sn 1 mechanism with OR as leaving group, which does not happen.

Suspended solids and surface-active contaminants can be removed from the treating solution by continuous mechanical and activated carbon filtration of a side stream. For large systems, Bali and Veldman (1991) recommend continuous filtration of a minimum of 10 to 15%... 

The next problem then is how do ions interact in solution Friedman and Krishnan (1973) differentiate between three types of models. There is brass-balIs-in-the-bathtub-model, where the ions are taken to be hard spheres in the bathtub (solvent) then there are the chemical and the Hamiltonian models, which start from fairly rigorous statistical mechanics and calculate the interaction of ions in solution.
