This process confers the uniqueness, peculiarity, and specificity of Madeira wine. It is meant to simulate the effects of a long sea voyage of aging barrels through tropical climates. As noted, the benefits of this exposure were discovered in the seventeenth century, where casks of Madeira were stored in the warm, humid holds of sailing ships for months at a time. It led to the employment of the technique of baking used today.

The solvents used for electrodeposition resins perform three functions. First, the solvent facilitates handling during the preparation of the aqueous solution since these carboxyl containing materials are either resinous or sticky semi-solids. Second, the solvent may accompany the vehicle during deposition and therefore can influence the flow characteristics during post-deposition bake or cure. Third, the solvent can confer better water solubility characteristics on the resin and thus help to maintain bath stability, a factor of prime importance in electrocoating.

Isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) based isocyanate curing agents confer very high durabihty to 2 component polyurethane systems, but this is offset by poor flexibility and low reaetivity. Hence IPDI adducts are usually combined with flexible hydroxy prepolymers in low bake applications. They are also used as partial replacements for the aromatic or aliphatic polyisocyanates. Compared to other diisocyanates, IPDI has the advantage that it has relatively low volatility, whilst still being a liquid.
