Bag-making

Simple leaf mold containers can be made with netting and posts, or bought. There is no need for a lid or solid sides, nor is size critical—just big enough to hold your supply of leaves. Smaller quantities can be stuffed into plastic bags. Make a few air holes with a garden fork when the bags are full, and tie the top loosely. An even simpler method is to just pile the leaves in a sheltered corner and wait. [Pg.44]

Ecoflex and Ecovio are weldable on existing bag-making machines for PE-LD and PE-HD, but at lower welding temperatures of about 90-100°C for Ecoflex . As the crystallization process is slower than with PE-LD, the welding line can stick to the surface if direct surface contact is possible. Therefore, the welding machine has to allow for extra cooling of the weld lines [23]. [Pg.118]

Ecoflex and Ecovio are also weldable on bag making machines equipped with parting seam device for simultaneous sealing and parting of the bags at high speed, e.g., >200 bags/min [30]. [Pg.118]

The widespread use of hot melt adhesives includes bookbinding (soft cover binding of books and magazines), component assembly in electronics, consumer durables, automotive fields, and various applications in the packaging industry (e.g., carton sealing, bag making, labels), footwear manufacture (counters and toe puffs), woodworking, and the textile industry. [Pg.618]

In other machines, such as paper bag making machines, the adhesive is applied by simple flat discs (Fig. 61). The disc may be grooved to retain the adhesive into the groove or segmented in order to apply interrupted lines of glue. [Pg.132]

With ELITE enhanced polyethylene resins, you can overcome this problem, realise faster packaging line speeds and fewer leakers on vertical form-fill-seal equipment, and achieve better handling characteristics. The lower seal initiation temperature also creates a broader sealing window, while providing extra flexibility in various bag-making processes. [Pg.925]

Hot bar weldii employs simple heating jaws or bars, one or both of which are continuously heated to a temperature of between 180°C and 230°C. The temperature is thermostatically controlled. To prevent the plastics being sealed from sticking to the heated bars, a barrier material such as PTFE is interposed between the plastics film and the heated bars. The bars are normally attached to a small pedal press or hand tongs, but in the case of high output requirements, the heated bars are an integral part of a purpose made equipment. An example is a polyethylene bag making machine, which operates at well over one seal/second per webb run. [Pg.27]

The nitrocellulose coated films were the only type available until the early 1950 s, when vinylidene chloride copolymer coatings were introduced. The method of coating is essentially the same as that used for the nitrocellulose type. This later type of coating has the advantage that subsequent conversion, eg printing and bag making, does not have as marked an effect on barrier properties as on the nitrocellulose coatings where the water vapour permeability can be increased quite appreciably. [Pg.113]

The report concludes with the statement The replacement of polyethylene by paper carrier bags makes no sense ecologically. The production of polyethylene carrier bags requires less energy, and in the process results in less burden to the environment. There is no significant difference in the disposal of polyethylene and paper bags at landfill sites or in incineration plants ... [Pg.424]
