Valve, trap, and baffle can be combined in such a manner that elastomers can be used in the valve and contamination is controlled from the valve-actuator mechanisms and from the gasket of the valve-plate seal (Fig. 15) (42). [Pg.378]

It is assumed that process conditions and physical properties are known and the following are known or specified tube outside diameter D, tube geometrical arrangement (unit cell), shell inside diameter D shell outer tube limit baffle cut 4, baffle spacing and number of sealing strips N,. The effective tube length between tube sheets L may be either specified or calculated after the heat-transfer coefficient has been determined. If additional specific information (e.g., tube-baffle clearance) is available, the exact values (instead of estimates) of certain parameters may be used in the calculation with some improvement in accuracy. To complete the rating, it is necessary to know also the tube material and wall thickness or inside diameter. [Pg.1037]

Sealing. strips. These longitudinal strips either extend from baffle to baffle or may be inserted in slots cut into the baffles. [Pg.1073]

In spht-flow shells the longitudinal baffle may be installed without a positive seal at the edges if design conditions are not seriously affected by a hmited amount of bypassing. [Pg.1073]

The Seal Drum - A typical flare seal drum for an elevated flare stack is illustrated in Figure 7. A baffle maintains the normal water level, and the vapor inlet is submerged 75 mm to 100 mm. Drum dimensions are designed such that a 3 m slug of water is pressured back into the vertical inlet piping in the event of... [Pg.268]

Figure 10-148 presents a recommended pressure drop correlation for low-fin tubes in shells and is based on clean tube pressure drop with no dirt sealing the leakage clearances between tubes and baffle holes or baffle-to-shell clearances. A fouled condition pressure drop may be an indeterminate amount greater. The authors state that this University of Delaware correlation has some lactors built in that limit the deviations to a relatively small range. Figure 10-148 has... [Pg.224]

The specimens are clamped at an angle of 15° to the vertical in a baffled enclosure maintained at 50°C, and the exposure time is 24-96 h. Corrosive attack of inadequately sealed or thin films is shown by pitting. [Pg.699]
