He held assistant professorships at Loyola College in Maryland (1935-39) and at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute (1941-43), as well as positions with Colloid Corporation and Kellex Corporation. During the period of World War II, he also served with the U.S. Coast Guard and the Manhattan Project. In 1945 he moved to Texas to accept a teaching position at The University of Texas in Austin (UT) and remained in Texas for the rest of his life.
