Lamotrigine is effective for the maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder in adults. It has both antidepressant and mood-stabilizing effects, and it may have augmenting properties when combined with lithium or valproate. It has low rates of switching patients to mania. Although it is less effective for acute mania compared to lithium and valproate, it may be beneficial for the maintenance therapy of treatment-resistant bipolar I and II disorders, rapidcycling, and mixed states. It is often used for bipolar II patients. [Pg.787]

Supposing known a new set P=(PiJ built up with some values of some property attached in a one-to-one correspondence to the elements of set S, Mendeleev Conjecture also states that the ordering of these properties follow the same structure as the one established for the density transforms. So, an unknown value p of the property attached to the new structure s may be found somewhere within the order of the property set. Applying the rule R over the augmented property set PU p, an estimation of the property value p, can be made. [Pg.269]

Definition 9.11. A matroid M on a finite ground set V is a nonempty collection I of subsets ofV such that every subset of a set in I is in I as well, and such that the following augmentation property is satisfied if (t,t G I, and a > t, then there exists x E (t t such thatrU x I- The elements of I are called independent sets. [Pg.134]

LTP) in hippocampal slices (89,90). LTP is believed to be a critical step in memory acquisition, and agents that possess the abiUty to augment this process in vivo are expected to be of benefit in memory enhancement. However, this compound has only demonstrated this property in vitro. In addition, because (11) does not appear to affect other neurotransmitter systems, as do other nootropics, the potential of BMY 21502 as a memory-enhancing agent is questionable. [Pg.96]

NMD A receptors are selectively activated by A/-methyl-D-aspartate (NMD A) (182). NMD A receptor activation also requires glycine or other co-agonist occupation of an allosteric site. NMDAR-1, -2A, -2B, -2C, and -2D are the five NMD A receptor subunits known. Two forms of NMDAR-1 are generated by alternative splicing. NMDAR-1 proteins form homomeric ionotropic receptors in expression systems and may do so m situ in the CNS. Functional responses, however, are markedly augmented by co-expression of a NMDAR-2 and NMDAR-1 subunits. The kinetic and pharmacological properties of the NMD A receptor are influenced by the particular subunit composition. [Pg.551]

The process yields a random, completely soluble polymer that shows no evidence of crystallinity of the polyethylene type down to —60°C. The polymer backbone is fully saturated, making it highly resistant to ozone attack even in the absence of antiozonant additives. The fluid resistance and low temperature properties of ethylene—acryUc elastomers are largely a function of the methyl acrylate to ethylene ratio. At higher methyl acrylate levels, the increased polarity augments resistance to hydrocarbon oils. However, the decreased chain mobiUty associated with this change results in less fiexibihty at low temperatures. [Pg.498]

The structure/property relationships in materials subjected to shock-wave deformation is physically very difficult to conduct and complex to interpret due to the dynamic nature of the shock process and the very short time of the test. Due to these imposed constraints, most real-time shock-process measurements are limited to studying the interactions of the transmitted waves arrival at the free surface. To augment these in situ wave-profile measurements, shock-recovery techniques were developed in the late 1950s to assess experimentally the residual effects of shock-wave compression on materials. The object of soft-recovery experiments is to examine the terminal structure/property relationships of a material that has been subjected to a known uniaxial shock history, then returned to an ambient pressure... [Pg.192]

Polycarbonate (PC) serves as a convenient example for both, the direct determination of the distribution of correlation times and the close connection of localized motions and mechanical properties. This material shows a pronounced P-relaxation in the glassy state, but the nature of the corresponding motional mechanism was not clear 76 80> before the advent of advanced NMR techniques. Meanwhile it has been shown both from 2H NMR 17) and later from 13C NMRSI) that only the phenyl groups exhibit major mobility, consisting in 180° flips augmented by substantial small angle fluctuations about the same axis, reaching an rms amplitude of 35° at 380 K, for details see Ref. 17). [Pg.44]

The ability of the E-plastomers to participate in the peroxide-mediated chain-extension processes can be augmented in blends with EPDM, where the mixture is homogeneously cross-linked with free radicals [5]. The use of these blends of EPDM and E-plastomers leads to improved processing and physical properties of the combination, compared to the EPDM alone, though the resulting vulcanizates are somewhat harder than the EPDM vulcanizates alone due to the presence of the semicrystalline plastomers in the vulcanized mixture. [Pg.172]
