Accident management is treated comprehensively for future plants. Accident management augments design features to prevent degradation of an accident to severe accident conditions, and to mitigate accidents, if they occur. 

Because of the relative slowness of main memory (compared with the CPU), most computers have a much smaller, but much faster cache memory subsystem that augments main memory. The size of the cache memory and the extent to which a program can utilize the cache can be critical deterrninants of performance. Again, there are some common optimization techniques designed to maximize cache utilization. 

Kelkar and McCarthy (1995) proposed another method to use the feedforward experiments to develop a kinetic model in a CSTR. An initial experimental design is augmented in a stepwise manner with additional experiments until a satisfactory model is developed. For augmenting data, experiments are selected in a way to increase the determinant of the correlation matrix. The method is demonstrated on kinetic model development for the aldol condensation of acetone over a mixed oxide catalyst. 

Water injection, or steam injection systems, are being used extensively to augment power. Corrosion problems in the compressor diffuser and combustor have not been found to be major problems. The increase in work and efficiency with a reduction in NO makes the process very attractive. Split-shaft cycles are attractive for use in variable-speed mechanical drives. The off-design characteristics of such an engine are high efficiency and high torque at low speeds. 

Compressor surge is a phenomenon of considerable interest, yet it is not fully understood. It is a form of unstable operation and should be avoided in both design and operation. Surge has been traditionally defined as the lower limit of stable operation in a compressor and involves the reversal of flow. This reversal of flow occurs because of some kind of aerodynamic instability within the system. Usually a part of the compressor is the cause of the aerodynamic instability, although it is possible that the system arrangement could be capable of augmenting this instability. Aside from technology developments, there is always a major emphasis on value added services. It includes the design concept to fabricator that continually tries to find ways to augment or reduce steps during manufacture with the target of reducing costs.
