Attribute list

Process owners need to be dedicated to their process. They must be empowered and held accountable for all the attributes listed in their roles and responsibilities. Process owners may have ownership of more than one process and may have other job responsibilities, but it must be clear throughout the organization as to who has full authority for the process.

The required attributes listed above effectively limit the range of primary buffers available to between pH 3 and 10 (at 25 °C). Calcium hydroxide and potassium tetraoxalate tire excluded because the contribution of hydroxide or hydrogen ions to the ionic strength is significant. Also excluded are the nitrogen bases of the type BH+ (such as tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane and piperazine phosphate) and the zwitterionic buffers (e.g. HEPES and MOPS (10)). These do not comply because either the Bates-Gu enheim convention is not applicable, or the liquid junction potentials are high. This means the choice of primary standards is restricted to buffers derived from oxy-carbon, -phosphorus, -boron and mono, di- and tri-protic carboxylic acids. The uncertainties (11) associated with Harned cell measurements are calculated (1) to be 0.004 in pH at NMIs, with typical variation between batches of primary standard buffers of 0.003. 

For all practical purposes, the sensory analysis of rancidity of food products includes, in addition to using the rancidity intensity scale, a profile of off-flavor with the attributes listed above and/or more characteristic of the product. In the case of fish products, for example, it is necessary to carry out separate profile analyses for off-odors and off-flavors.

The sintered boron carbide-aluminum control material has good physical properties, is a good heat transfer media and can be fabricated to close tolerances. The flat rod tips require these properties. The powdered boron carbide used in the round tips is not required to have the attributes listed above. A sufficient quantity of boron must be contained in the rod tip to compensate for that burned up during the tiime the rod is performing its control function. Since boron gives off helium after capturing a neutron, the poison volume of the rod tip must be vented to prevent a pressure buildup. 

To determine the appropriate list of attributes, the glossary usually used for Descriptive Analysis can be used as a starting point to initiate the discussion with the subjects, but the attribute list for TDS is almost always different from the one used for Descriptive Analysis (at least, generally shorter). If the TDS evaluation is split into several phases (e.g. one TDS before swallowing and one TDS after swallowing), the attribute list can be different for each phase as long as there is no interest in the direct comparison of the TDS profiles across phases. 

Saint-Eve et al. (2011) investigated the question of the quality of the attribute list by proposing to different panels with the same level of training either an optimal list of nine attributes (based on previous work on the same product area), or a reduced list of seven attributes with important missing attributes, or an extended list of 11 attributes with two additional but non-essential terms. Results showed that the use of a list missing dominant attributes led to a biased description of the products. Subjects missing an attribute have actually no other choice than reporting their selection on another term, which dramatically modifies the sequence of perceptions. On the other hand, it seems it does not harm to have some additional attributes since they were almost not used. 

Assuming a panel of 56 subjects evaluating products according to an attribute list of ten terms, the results of the calculation of the significance limit would be respectively about 18% and 17% for the binomial and normal approximation approaches, which are very close results.
