Atmosphere unit

Cmde oil containing about 30% asphalt can be refined completely in an atmospheric unit to an asphalt product. However, most cmde oil cannot be distilled satisfactorily to an asphalt product at atmospheric pressure because of the presence of substantial proportions of high boiling gas oil fractions. Thus, as a supplement to the atmospheric process, a second fractionating tower (a vacuum tower) is added (Fig. 1). [Pg.362]

In 1995, industrial releases of acrylonitrile to the environment, as reported to the Toxic Chemical Release Inventory of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, totalled about 2940 tonnes, including 2360 tonnes to underground injection sites and 576 tonnes to the atmosphere (United States National Library of Medicine, 1997a). [Pg.55]

If the obtained space lo agrees with the adjacent multitude of atmospheric units 2, then the ozone content is averaged over lo and the adjacent compartments fly with their volumes taken into account. [Pg.257]

Operating conditions for vacuum distillation are usually 50 to 100 mmHg (atmospheric pressure = 760 mmHg). In order to minimize large fluctuations in pressure in the vacuum tower, the units are necessarily of a larger diameter than the atmospheric units. Some vacuum distillation... [Pg.480]

Typical gravimetric units for both sub-atmosphere and high pressure measurements of equilibrium adsorption isotherms are shown schematically in Fig. 3.5 [1,15]. The all-glass sub-atmosphere unit is housed in an insulated constant temperature box free from any kind of disturbance, either mechanical or thermal. The unit contains a Cahn 2000 electrobalance with sensitivity of 10 g for... [Pg.44]

The process may be operated at atmospheric pressure or at higher pressures. The advantage of low pressure is that atmospheric units can be used while at higher pressures the steam produced can be used elsewhere in the facility. The operating temperature for atmospheric operation is 145 C, while at higher pressures (4—5 atm) the operating temperature has a range of 175—180 C. A... [Pg.96]

First, the amount of oxygen and its pressure must be converted to the units of moles and atmosphere, units required in the ideal gas law. [Pg.309]

It is seen that in the illustration (Fig. 5.19), a two-step atmospheric rectification unit is combined with a one-step vacuum rectification unit. In modem refineries, however, the combined rectification unit consists of a two-step atmospheric unit and a two-step vacuum rectification unit. At the MIDER refinery in Germany (the most modern refinery in Europe), a combination of a three-step atmospheric and a one-step vacuum rectification unit is used. A scheme for this unit is shown in Figure 5.20. [Pg.255]

Pressure Dyeing Decks — The use of pressure dyeing decks in the place of atmospheric units permits reduction in the amount of dye carriers required, thereby, reducing the BOD and heavy metal concentrat ions. [Pg.238]

Part of diesel fuel has to be recovered not in an atmospheric unit but in a vacuum one. This creates a double effect (1) in the feeding of a vacuum column the fraction of light components increases, which, due to their stripping influence, increases recovery of lubricant fractions or gas-oil and (2) the volatilities of components grow under vacuum, which separates diesel fuel from heavier products more sharply and deeply. Figure 8.34 shows the calculation dependence of yield of lubricant fractions in dry vacuum column on the fraction in its feeding of components with bubble temperatures below 360°C. However, increase of vapor flow rate in vacuum column requires application of more productive contact devices. [Pg.317]

If a crude unit contains only a two-column atmospheric unit, then in the main column a moderate vacuum has to be kept ( 0,8 atm) with the help of vacuum-creating equipment joined with c reflux drum. [Pg.317]

At two-column atmospheric unit, the simple method to decrease expenditures of heat and cold is application of two feedings with different temperatures in column of partial recovery of benzine (top feeding is at temperature about 100°C and bottom feeding is at temperature achieved by means of heating of crude by hot products and by pumparounds). [Pg.318]

When evaluating Q in the Nernst equation, rememberthat (a) molar concentrations are used for dissolved species and (b) partial pressures of gases are expressed in atmospheres. Units are omitted. [Pg.831]
