A shortcoming of the GPDC interpolation data chart procedure is that it replaces a single correlation chart by an atlas. The interpolation charts consume more storage space In the design manual or on the computer and require a greater updating effort.

Another promising approach is to use specialized hardware (GRAPE) designed at the chip-level for rapid computations of pair-wise energy and force evaluations (Higo et al. 1994, Hut and Makino 1999 also see http //mdm.atlas.riken.go.jp )... 

The recognition of the potential of numerical computation as a research technique dates from the vision of von Neumann and others in the 1940s of the future use of digital computers as mathematical tools.
