Arylene groups

The condensation of a dithioamide with a dibromodiketone (305-311) leads to a polymer according to Scheme 7. Polymers formed by thiazole rings bonded by arylene groups have also been obtained (Scheme 8). The ultraviolet spectra of the polymers and their models are given in Table III-60. 

Polymers and elastomers comprising at least one 9-H,H-fluorene group and at least one arylene group have been prepared. Silarylene Polymers Containing m-Xvlvlene Units. A majority of the silarylene type siloxane polymers which have been worked on to date contain silicon-phenyl bonds. After an extensive literature search, only one type of polymer was found which contained an arylene group that does not have silphenylene bonds in the polymer backbone. Most other processes that claim to make PPS, actually make polymers that may contain both arylene groups and some sulfide linkages, but the polymers invariably contain too much sulfur to be PPS. The structure and crystallinity of these polymers usually are much different from PPS prepared by the Phillips process.
