Arum maculatum

Burbidge, E. W. 1903. The leaf-marking of Arum maculatum. Irish Nat., Dublin XII 137. [Pg.305]

The polyprenols obtained from tobacco and Arum maculatum (solanesol and spadicol), which are all E, are the exceptions. Another interesting fact is that, in most seed-plants, the polyprenols are allylic, as is bacterial undecaprenol. Saturated or slightly modified polyprenols, such as animal dolichol, seem to be present only in fungi. Any of those plant polyprenols, in a phosphorylated form, can be potential sugar acceptors for transfer reactions. Experiments were performed with phosphorylated allylic polyprenols and membrane preparations from Phaseolus aureus. D-Mannose from GDP-D-mannose was incorporated into the exogenous, polyprenyl phosphates,29,49 52 but it was not possible to establish unequivocally the role of these polyprenols as lipid intermediates. [Pg.349]

Tons les mois is a variety of starch made from the tubers of Canna edulis. Portland sago or Portland arrowroot is obtained from the tubers of Arum maculatum. Salep, once largely consumed, and still used in Turkey and the East as a food, is a starch derived from tlie tubers of various kinds... [Pg.16]

Cytochrome 6-560 isolated and purified from mung bean seedlings exists in mitochondria of the organism and corresponds functionally to cytochrome 6 in animal mitochondria in that it shows similar spectral properties and standard potential 266). Bonner has suggested that cytochrome 6-560 is identical to cytochrome which was found in mitochondria from the spadix of Arum maculatum 268). The Eo of cytochrome 67 269,270) was found to be at —30 mV. Both cytochromes... [Pg.590]
