Architecture selection

Automatic synthesis of control architectures from a program description is a very important task in order to allow the designer to explore a large part of the design space with little effort. Until now, such approaches have mainly been addressed for data-path architectures, as described elsewhere in this book. [Pg.213]

Research into such control architecture synthesis has mainly been along two different approaches  [Pg.213]

Another approach involves more general decomposition methods, where a single CU is decomposed into a set of communicating finite state machines [12, 14]. [Pg.214]

The results presented in this section follow the first approach. The resulting system allows the designer to explore a range of CU architectures. [Pg.214]

CU programs are usually expressed as state transition graphs (STGs). In many CU programs, it is possible to find subsequences that occur in several places in the STG. Two sequences are identical if and only if they produce the same output sequences for all possible input sequences. The basic idea of a range of different architectures is to re-use these state sequences so that only one copy is needed in the implementation, thereby reducing the area of the CU. [Pg.214]

Species of the form RC CRu(P P)2X, where P P represents a chelating bis(phosphine), R can be a variety of TT-systems, and X can be a halide or another acetylide ligand, have been incorporated into a wide range of dipolar, quadrupolar, and octupolar architectures. Selected NLO data for some of these compounds are summarized in Table 3 and some dipolar and quadrupolar structures are shown in Figure 14, with octupolar species in Figure 15. [Pg.122]

The computer system architecture selected should provide the system interfaces specified by the computer system requirements and should implement the nonfunctional computer system requirements, such as those pertaining to performance and reliability. [Pg.32]

The documentation on the computer system design should contain a clear description of the computer system architecture selected. In addition, it should include a justification of the computer system design in terms of the required dependability of the system and the ability to implement all functional requirements. Such a justification can be provided, in part, by evidence of the use of a structured methodology. Also, the selected architecture should demonstrate a balance between simplicity in concept and the capacity to satisfy performance requirements. The justification of the computer system design can be partially achieved with the possible use of modelling and analysis, formal method iterations or prototyping. The results of such analyses should be described in the documentation on the computer system. [Pg.37]

The primary concern in the construction of a computational system is to produce a design which satisfies the requirements specification of the system. The question of whether a computing resource should be implemented as a centralised or distributed system may be only of secondary importance. When a satisfactory design has been generated, and a computational architecture selected, a software specification for the... [Pg.164]

This section describes potential design events for the Space Nuclear Power Plant (SNPP). Design events applicable specifically to the Ground Test Reactor (GTR) are listed in Section 11.3. A list of design events would have been finalized after the reactor module functional requirements were established and the system architecture selected. [Pg.560]

This selection activity must be documented to show that the features and parameters of the optimal system architecture selection are adequate to support subsequent development of the system throughout the life cycle. [Pg.66]
