Aquaphor

Once the desired frost is achieved, the skin can be rinsed off with water, or cooled down with cool wet compresses which are applied to the skin. The wet compresses can provide a welcome relief to the burning induced by the peel. Unlike glycolic peels the water does not neutralize the peel, as the frosting indicates the end-point of the reaction rather, it dilutes any excess TCA. The compresses can be repeated several times until the burning sensation has subsided. Subsequently, a layer of ointment such as plain petrolatum or Aquaphor is applied and post-peel instructions and what to expect are reviewed with the patient prior to discharge to home. 

For soluble drugs, dissolve them in water and absorb into aquaphor base approximately double its quantity (for example, take 20 g of the base for a 10-mL liquid), and then mix in the intended base.

Salicylic acid paste (salicylic powder USP 50%, methyl salicylate 16 drops, aquaphor 11.2 g), 20-30% on weight-to-volume basis in a hydro-ethanolic solution, salicylic acid peel kits (Skinceuticals salicylic acid peel kits).

Hispanic, mild to moderate dyschromia 15 sec/zone None Aquaphor ointment... 

Caucasian, mild rhytids 2 min/zone using one dip of large swab 1 min added to deeper rhytids using one dip of large swab Thymol iodide powder at 24 hr for 6 days or immediate Aquaphor ointment until healed... 

Caucasian with severe acne scars 1 min/zone for analgesic effect 5 min followed by immediate dermabrasion Cover all areas with Xeroform gauze and Aquaphor ointment... 

Apply Aquaphor ointment immediately (more likely to result in spotty, dry crusted area due to mechanical loss of ointment). 

End treatment Aquaphor ointment. Keep moist with ointment until healed - may wash gently and shower Blot dry with gauze Apply thymol iodide powder in 24 hr for 8 days or apply Aquaphor ointment immediately Let dry, gauze sponge away oils to further dry (1 min). Apply 2-3 layers of waterproof tape, Kling (Johnson Johnson, New Brunswick, NJ) Coban (3M Health Care Products, St, Paul, Minn). Spandage (Meditech International, Brooklyn, NY) for 48 hr to hold tape.
