Applied kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology Diagnostic technique used in chiropractic medicine. [Pg.1087]

The field of kinesiology should not be confused with applied kinesiology, which is a diagnostic technique used in chiropractic medicine. The clinician applies a force to a muscle or muscle group, and the patient resists the force. Based on the patient s... [Pg.1087]

Mansour, JM. Ch.5 Biomechanics of cartilage In Applied kinesiology, Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 2003. [Pg.133]

Biomechanics is the study of the application of mechanical forces to a living organism. It investigates the effects of the relationship between the body and forces applied either from outside or within. In humans, biomechanists study the movements made by the body, how they are performed, and whether the forces produced by the muscles are optimal for the intended result or purpose. Biomechanics integrates the study of anatomy and physiology with physics, mathematics, and engineering principles. It may be considered a subdiscipline of kinesiology as well as a scientific branch of sports medicine. [Pg.222]

Kinesiology is the study of human movement. Although it technically is not limited to humans, as an applied science, it almost always is. Kinesiology is primarily concerned with all kinds of physical activity, including competitive sports and activities designed to maintain and improve health. It is a major part of physical rehabilitation and injury prevention, and it can be used to design workstations that are ergonomic and minimize hazards. [Pg.1087]

Sports and Fitness. Traditionally, the field of kinesiology has been applied to sports skills and conditioning for performance. This is still the major... [Pg.1090]

Kinesiology concepts—in the form of ergonomics—have been applied to workstations. Movement analysis can lead to better workstations and fewer overuse and acute injuries. Ergonomics can save business and industry millions of dollars in medical costs and workers compensation. [Pg.1091]
