Polyesters exhibit excellent high temperature strength and electrical properties making them a good choice for many demanding applications. They also are physiologically inert allowing them to be used in food contact applications. The two common polyesters, polyethylene terephthalate and polybutylene terephthalate, are both used in injection molded products. Polyethylene terephthalate is often used in both extrusion and blow molded processes also. [Pg.381]

Injection-molding products are the second largest application with approximately 20% of the HDPE market. These products includes housewares, toys, food containers, pails, crates, and cases... [Pg.1143]

General-purpose polystyrene is extruded either clear or embossed for room dividers, shower doors, glazings, and lighting applications. Injection molding of impact polystyrene is used for household items, such as flower pots, personal care products, and toys. General-purpose polystyrene is used for cutlery, bottles, combs, disposable tumblers, dishes, and trays... [Pg.1355]

There are far too many applications for injection molded products to thoroughly cover here. However, a few examples will help provide an idea of some of the important mold design and machining considerations. [Pg.498]

In contrast with the applications for LDPE, about two-thirds of high-density polyethylene is used in molding applications, split about 40% into blow molding of bottles and containers, and 25% into injection-molded products. A further 10% of the total HOPE resin output is consumed in each of the pipe and electrical conduit fabrication areas, and for film and sheet products. [Pg.743]

Among the polypropylene products, the most recycled are the battery cases. Almost all automotive and truck battery cases are made of PP, and there is a well-established industry to recycle batteries in the United States, due to its lead contamination. Because of the combination of land disposal ban, and mandated delivery/take-back provisions, automotive batteries are recycled at a very high level. About 40 percent of the recovered PP is used again in battery production and the rest is used for making other injection-molded products. Some of the cleaner recycled PP can be used in libers, such as spunbond or meltblown nonwovens for geotextiles or filter applications. ... [Pg.373]

Flow field and cooling condition between injection molding and compression molding are essentially different. In particular, the flow-induced molecular orientation and/or the distorted shape of the dispersed phase have to be considered seriously in the injection molding. This part deals with the relation between morphology and mechanical properties in the injection-molded products for iPP and iPP/EHR blends (65). This is directly important for the industrial application. The characteristics of these samples are summarized in Table 9.5. [Pg.257]

Polyethylene and its copolymers find applications in major industries such as packaging, housewares, appliances, transportation, communications, electric power, agriculture, and construction. The majority of LDPE is used as thin film for packaging. Other uses include wire and cable insulation, coatings, and injection-molded products (Table 15.2). [Pg.424]

PBS is a typical thermoplastic and can be processed via various methods, such as extrusion, injection molding, film blowing, fiber spinning, and thermoforming. It has been reported that PBS can be processed into melt-blown, multifilament, monofilament, nonwoven, flat and split yarn, injection-molded products, film, paper laminate, sheet, and tape for applications in the textile and plastic industries. [Pg.363]

Blow-molded products account for over 40% of the HDPE consumption with the milk and juice jugs being the primary packaging product. Only about 30% of the resin is used in injection-molded products such as food containers and crates, while film applications account for about 7% of the HDPE consumption [6],... [Pg.88]

This paper has been written to educate and update natural gas professionals concerning the evaluation of PA 12 from a manufacturer s perspective. The information contained in this paper is derived from a collection of technical papers, presentations, and data collected from the molding and testing of PA 12 mechanical fittings completed by Continental Industries. The topics discussed will include fitting requirements, polyamide materials, PA 12 producers, PA 12 applications, injection molding capability, and product testing currently underway at Continental Industries. [Pg.2431]
