Applications gate functions

Jia et al. [125] constructed ionic polymer-coated nanofibrous membranes through grafting poly(ionic hquid) brushes (Scheme 8.12) onto the electrospun Si02 nanofiber surface using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) method. They further demonstrated the potential applications of functionalized membranes as an anion-directed molecular gating system and also a membrane with electroactivity via simple counteranion exchange of the attached poly(ionic hquid) brushes. [Pg.267]

In addition to the pre-synaptic effects, CX3CL1 modulates the functional properties of ligand-gated channels at post-synaptic sites. In SK-N-SH cells, a human neuroblastoma cell line, CX3CL1 reduces the amplitude of NMDA-induced calcium transients (Deiva et al. 2004). In these cells, CX3CL1 application causes a PTX insensitive transient increase in the intracellular Ca " concentration dependent on... [Pg.303]

In some parts of the world religious functions may occur several times a day and every day of the week. These functions are generally required to be performed at the immediate location of an individual. These activities must be respected and accommodated for the employees and any personnel who may be in attendance at the facility. Typically where hydrocarbon facilities are located in areas were such practices are performed, a specialized installation (i.e., mosque) is normally provided. The primary concern in their application is that the installation does not interfere with the operation of the facility, is not provided within the confines of a hazardous location (i.e., process location), and that it is shielded or removed from the effects of an explosion or fire. Typical applications provide these specialized facilities just outside the security fencing and access gate a facility. [Pg.246]

The applicability of the foregoing procednre has been tested by modeling simple reaction under semi-infinite diffusion conditions (reaction 1.1) and EC mechanism coupled to adsorption of the redox couple (reaction (2.177)) [2]. The solutions derived by the original and modified step-function method have been compared in order to evaluate the error involved by the proposed modification. As expected, the precision of the modified step-function method depends solely on the value of p, i.e., the number of time subintervals. For instance, for the complex EC mechanism, the error was less than 2% for p>20. This slight modification of the mathematical procedure has opened the gate toward modeling of very complex electrode mechanisms such as those coupled to adsorption equilibria and regenerative catalytic reactions [2] and various mechanisms in thin-film voltammetry [5-7]. [Pg.188]

For correct function of the ISFET, a sufficiently large gate voltage, Vq, must be applied between the leads to the reference electrode and to the substrate, so that a sufficiently large potential difference is formed between the surface and the interior of the substrate for formation of the n-type conductive channel at the insulator/substrate interface. This channel conductively connects drain 1 and source 2, which are connected with the substrate by a p-n transition. On application of voltage Vj between the drain and the source, drain current /p begins to pass. Under certain conditions the drain current is a linear function of the difference between Vq and the Volta potential difference between the substrate and the membrane. [Pg.75]

A cumulative success of artificial ion-channel functions by simple molecules may disclose a wide gate for the design of ion channels and possible applications to ionics devices. Incorporation of these channels into bilayer lipid membrane systems may trigger the developments towards ionics devices. The conventional BLM system, however, is not very stable, one major drawback for the practical applications, and some stabilization methods, such as impregnating the material in micro-porous polycarbonate or polyester filters, are required. On the other hand,... [Pg.202]
