Application of Cyclodextrins in Non-industrial Areas

These properties of CDs allow their extensive use in analytical chemistry. For example, CDs can be used for the separation of enantiomers by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) or gas chromatography (GC). In these cases, the chiral stationary phase or mobile phase contains CDs or their derivatives. CDs also can be used as enzyme inhibitors in affinity techniques. In spectrometry, CDs [Pg.235]

Most of the separations have been carried out using HPLC with a CD-bonded phase or with CD mobile phase additives. Nevertheless, TLC is still popular as routine and spot analyses owing to its simplicity and low cost, and a large number of applications of CDs and their derivatives in TLC separations have been reported as the components of the mobile and stationary phases. In fact, a number of the positional, geometrical and optical isomers of bioactive compounds have been successfully separated by adding y3-CD or its analogs in aqueous mobile phases in TLC or on /3-CD-bonded silica-gel plates [ 10]. [Pg.236]

Joseph et al. investigated the reversed-phase (RP) thin-layer chromatographic separations of enantiomers of dansyl-amino acids using j8-CD as a chiral selector in the mobile phase. After being converted to their 5-dimethylamino-1-naphthalene sulfonyl (dansyl) derivatives, the D,L-racemates of nine proteinogenic amino acids could be separated by TLC [13]. [Pg.237]
