Antijump Baffles

Installing the standard antijump baffles for certain inboard downcomer trays to keep droplets (produced by tray blowing ) from entering the downcomer. [Pg.308]

Antijump baffles (Fig. 14-24) are sometimes installed just above center and off-center downcomers of multipass trays to prevent liquid from one pass skipping across the downcomer onto the next pass. Such liquid jump adds to the liquid load on each pass, leading to premature flooding. These baffles are essential with proprietary trays that induce forward push (see below). [Pg.31]

Antijump baffles. These are sometimes used with the splitflow downcomers shown in Fig. 2.17 to keep liquid from jumping over downcomers into an adjacent section of the same tray. [Pg.430]

Antijump baffles (Fig. 6.16) are often installed in the center and off-center downcomers of multipass trays in order to avoid a phenomenon similar to liquid throw (Sec. 6.16). Here the concern is that liquid jumping across the center downcomer, from one side to another, may cause excessive localized liquid buildup near the tray outlet, which may lead to premature flooding. Simulator tests (144) showed that antijump baffles can enhance tray capacity by as much as 25 percent in some instances. [Pg.180]

Antijump baffles deflect the jumping liquid into the downcomer, as does the tower shell when the flow is toward the side downcomer. Antijump baffles also assist in breaking up the froth. The following guidelines have been recommended for antijump baffles ... [Pg.181]

A criterion to determine the need for antijump baffles is presented elsewhere (138). Antijump baffles are not required when downcomer width exceeds 16 in (144). [Pg.181]
