Antifungal medications

If a low price is good, shouldn t a zero price be even better Several companies offered outright donations. Pfizer announced in April 2000 that it would donate its antifungal medication Diflucan to South Africa for two years. Fourteen months later, it one-upped itself and promised to provide 50 of the poorest nations in the world an unlimited, free supply. (Diflucan treats two ailments that commonly... [Pg.215]

Most otomycotic infections are the consequence of treatment with antibiotics. Simple cleaning of the external ear canal and discontinuation of the medication will usually suffice to clear up the infection. However, primary and persistent infections require ototopical antifungal medications (Table 2). [Pg.2478]

Fungal cultures may be required in refractory or persistent cases of otomycosis, in which less common fimgi may be responsible the appropriate ototopical agent may be selected based on culture results. Systemic antifungal medications are rarely indicated for the treatment of otomycosis, unless associated with systemic fungal infections. [Pg.2479]

Propylene glycol is a good base for many of the combination antibiotic drops. It acts as a dehydrating agent to fungi and enhances the effectiveness of other antifungal medications. Occasionally, a patient may develop a contact dermatitis from this agent. [Pg.2483]

A variety of otic preparations have been reviewed here, including indications, side effects, and limitations. The ideal cerumenolytic compound has not yet been developed, nor has a cerumen replacement product. Antiseptics enjoy wide application but are limited when used in the presence of a perforated tympanic membrane. Available antifungal medications appear to be adequate for the treatment of otomycosis, although none have been approved as otic preparations. The limitations of the otic antimicrobial drops have been stated, including the potential both for organism resistance and for ototoxicity. The recent introduction of Floxin and Cipro HC products make available better otic antimicrobial drops for treatment... [Pg.2484]

Systemic administration of drugs in the form of nanoparticulates intravenously has been widely studied. Currently, there are some liposomal anticancer and antifungal medications in clinical use. These products show relative increase in drug bioavailability in the target sites. They are not, however, active targeting systems with recognition ligands on the surface. [Pg.608]

Similarly, 2,6-xylenol along with m-cresol has been used for manufactime of 2,3,6-trimethyl phenol, a precursor for di-alpha-tocopherol, popularly known as vitamin-E. On chlorination 3,5-xylenol is converted to 4-chloro-3,5-xylenol — an antifungal medication and some pesticides [1,6]. In sum, some quantities of individual xylenols are used in organic chemical S3mthesis. However compared to cresols derivatives, downstream derivatives of xylenol isomers are relatively stiU not very significant. [Pg.10]

Syphilis is a bacterial infection, and an antifungal medication would not treat a bacterial infection. The antibiotic must be taken internally to treat syphilis. [Pg.188]

A combination of antiviral and antifungal medications with an antibiotic. [Pg.243]

Ketoconazole is an antifungal medication that has some efficacy for psoriasis. [Pg.376]

There are many ways textiles can be contaminated, due to their uses and/or through their environment. Potential threats include germs and fungi. However, there are a number of antimicrobial and antifungal medical textiles available nowadays. Antimicrobial performance testing using appropriate standard methods, test results, validation, and documentation is important. These tests are described in the foUowing section. [Pg.135]
