Anti-amebic

Heterocycle-fused acridines possess a variety of biological activities, including Ca releasing, antiviral (e.g., anti-HIV), antimicrobial (e.g., anti-amebic and antiplasmodium) and antitumor properties. They are also enzyme inhibitors (e.g., topoisomerase II inhibitors and protein tyrosine kinase inhibitors) and have DNA-intercalation and metal-chelating properties. [Pg.90]

The preparation and the antiamebic activity of 1, 2 -secoemetlne (XIand styrylimidazole5 derivatives (XIl) have been reported. Dilox-anide (Xllla), one of the dichloroacetamide anti-amebic agents, appears to be dependent on the presence of viable bacteria for activity.5p... [Pg.129]

The results of clinical ials using combinations of anti-amebic drugs are encouraging. Powell5° concluded that acute amebic dysentery should be treated with a combination of a direct acting, systemically ef-fective amebacide (emetine preparations, q uinoline derivatives) and a broad spectrum antibiotic (tetracyclines). In this connection, the... [Pg.129]

T. is an antibiotic substance produced by Strepto-myces spp., e.g., Streptomyces viridifaciens fermentation with Streptomyces rimoses leads to 5-hydroxy-t. (= oxytetracycline), with Streptomyces aureofaciens, 7-chlorotetracycline (= aureomycine) is obtained. Its hydrochloride, the phosphate complex and its lauryl sulfate complex are used as antibacterials against gram-positive as well as gram-negative bacteria t. acts as an anti-amebic and anti-rickettsial agent. [Pg.302]
