Randell, W.F. and R.E. Bradley. 1980. Effects of injectable famphur on young Brahman and Angus cattle. Amer. Jour. Veterin. Res. 44 1423-1426. [Pg.1089]

Genetic mannosidosis has been described in man, Angus cattle and Murray Gray cattle, and is characterized by a deficiency of a-mannosidase leading to storage of excess mannose-rich oligosaccharides in lysosomes. Pathologically, there is vacuolation of reticuloendothelial cells in the liver and lymph nodes, pancreatic exocrine cells, and neurons. Affected cattle are ataxic, uncoordinated, fail to thrive, and die in the first year of life. [Pg.46]

Similar analyses can also be made on other rice varieties, such as Jasmine rice. Authentic samples of typical Jasmine rice and of other rice varieties that can be used to minic Jasmine rice have to be collected and analyzed with a broad range of markers. The next step is performed similar to that described earlier for the establishment of a breed-specific analysis for Aberdeen Angus cattle. [Pg.31]

For the cattle, native breeds were preferred, with Shorthorn, Angus, Devon, Hereford and Welsh Black predominating. The sheep were a mixture, but Texel and Charolais were the most popular terminal sires. [Pg.161]

Adult rations contained equivalent of 5 mg famphur/kg BW daily Adults given equivalent of 5 mg famphur/kg BW daily Adults given equivalent of 5 mg/kg BW daily for 10 days, administered as a 33%-feed premix Intramuscular injection 15 mg/kg BW Hereford steers and calves, Angus cows to control cattle grubs (Hypoderma lineatum,... [Pg.1081]

There is also recognition of the potential for organic fibre products, with Treliske based at central Otago. This 3000-acre family farm runs Merino, Romney and coloured sheep flocks with Angus and Hereford cattle. Fleeces are then selected by hand and spun into undyed, unbleached quality yarns which are hand and machine knitted and exported mainly to the US and Japan. [Pg.217]

Cattle Aberdeen Angus vs. Holstein Delayed and reduced moxidectin topical absorption in Angus vs. Holstein, which may explain variability in drug effectiveness. [20]... [Pg.3979]

The genetic defect in patients with a-mannosidosis generally do not appear to involve the alterations in the transcription or translation of the mannosidase polypeptide [162], but recent data indicate that a human mutations can include splicing, missense, or nonsense mutations, as well as small insertions or deletions [177-179], Animal models for the enzyme deficiency have also been identified in Persian cats [158] and in Angus and Galloway cattle [159]. The defect in the feline disease results from a 4 bp deletion resulting in a frame shift at codon 583 and a premature termination at codon 645 [158], Each of the bovine mutations involve different missense mutations causing amino acid substitutions that influence the either the level of protein expression or enzyme stability [159],... [Pg.1225]
