In the first volume of this series (1) and in the chapters that follow here, various aspects of the analysis of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) are discussed in great depth. My intention in this chapter is to attempt to draw the various aspects of the problem together and provide a unified approach to the subject with selected references. A brief overview of approved methods has been published elsewhere (2), as has a more comprehensive review (3).
