AMPA receptors distribution

Regional distribution studies indicate that the highest density of kainate receptor occurs in the stratum lucidum of the hippocampus (mossy fiber system) and in the inner and outer layers of the neocortex. The highest density of NMDA receptors is found in the hippocampus, stratum radiatum, and in the striatum, thalamus, and cerebral cortex. The distribution of AMPA receptors is similar to that of NMDA receptors, but in the cerebellum AMPA receptors predominate in the molecular layer... [Pg.23]

NMDARs are relatively stable components of the postsynaptic membrane. For example, the basal rate of endocytosis of surface AMPA receptors in cultured cortical neurons is nearly threefold that of NMDARs (20,117). Thus, it is not surprising that synaptic plasticity is linked more to changes in numbers and distribution of surface AMPA receptors than it is to NMDARs consequently, studies on glutamate receptor internalization have focused more on AMPA receptors than on NMDARs. [Pg.349]

The three classes of ionotropic glutamate receptors- NMDA, AMPA, and kainate- are distributed extensively throughout the MOB. NMDA receptors are found in every layer of MOB except the IPL (Watanabe et ak, 1993 Monyer et al., 1994 Petralia et al., 1994b). AMPA receptors are found in all layers except the ONL and subependymal layer (Molnar et al., 1993 Martin et al., 1993 Petralia and Wenthold, 1992 van den Pol, 1995). Kainate receptors are found in the MGL, EPL, and IPL (Monaghan and Cotman, 1982 Gall et al., 1990 Miller et al., 1990 Wisden and Seeburg, 1993). [Pg.163]
