Ammonium sulfate storage

Particulate matter is the principal air pollutant emitted from ammonium sulfate plants. Most of the particulates are found in the gaseous exhaust of the dryers. Uncontrolled discharges of particulates may be of the order of 23 kg/t from rotary dryers and 109 kg/t from fluidized bed dryers. Ammonia storage tanks can release ammonia, and there may be fugitive losses of ammonia from process equipment. [Pg.65]

Peroxides formed during storage can be removed by percolation through alumina.5 Chlorine and Ammonium Sulfate. Mixture may explode.6... [Pg.209]

It is also used for the manufacture of soluble phosphate fertilizers (Chap. 21), of ammonium sulfate for use as a fertilizer, of other sulfates, and in the manufacture of many chemicals and drugs. Steel is usually cleaned of iron rust (is pickled ) by immersion in a bath of sulfuric acid before it is coated with zinc, tin, or enamel. The use of sulfuric acid as the electrolyte in ordinary storage cells has been mentioned (Chap. 14). [Pg.372]

Commercial isoprene, obtained from Phillips Petroleum Company, should be freshly distilled before use, in order to eliminate isoprene dimers and polymers which are likely to accumulate in storage. If peroxides are present, they should be destroyed before distillation of the isoprene by washing with 10% acidified ferrous ammonium sulfate. As an added precaution, the distillation flask should not be permitted to go dry. [Pg.60]

Enzyme activity is preserved by cold storage. Lyophilized (freeze-dried) proteins are stored in a freezer or refrigerator, while dilute solutions are stored at 2-5 °C. Concentrated suspensions of enzymes in ammonium sulfate are usually stable for long periods at 2-5 °C. [Pg.57]

Ammonium sulfate (2 M) is a popular storage solution for commercial porcine liver esterase (PLE). Ammonium sulfate prevents microbial growth on the solution. Storage in 50% glycerol is also useful and this glycerol stock can be stored below 0°C. [Pg.66]
