Amino compounds carcinogenic

Similar considerations apply to all aryl amine bladder carcinogens employed in the dye, rubber and leather industries51. Between 1930 and 1960, the toxic natures of many other coal-tar (aromatic) amino compounds, particularly azo dyes, were revealed52. 

A -Nitroso derivatives, prepared from secondary amines and nitrous acid, are cleaved by reduction (H2/Raney Ni, EtOH, 28°, 3.5 h CuCl/concd. HCl"). Since many V-nitroso compounds are carcinogens, and because some racemization and cyclodehydration of V-nitroso derivatives of V-alkyl amino acids occur during peptide syntheses, V-nitroso derivatives are of limited value as protective groups. 

Methods were described for HPLC determination of the mutagenic and carcinogenic a-carbolines (56,57), y-carbolines (58,59)155 160, and other products of amino acid pyrolysis found in cigarette smoke, diesel exhaust and cooked foods and phenazines (60, 61) present as impurities of certain pesticides161. These compounds were also determined in human plasma, urine and bile161,162. 

N-Substitution (mono- or di-) with alkyl group(s) will have steric/electronic hindrance effects on bioactivation of the amino end and thus the carcinogen-ic/mutagenic activity of the compounds.
